Chewelah girls on the rebound

Cougars down
ML, Colville

The Jenkins High girls’ basketball team has apparently shaken off a slow December start and has crated some momentum heading into the holidays and 2015.
Chewelah picked up a pair of Northeast A League wins last week over Medical Lake and Colville.
Head coach Tom Skok was happy with the two-win week; he traces the change in the Cougars’ play to a play late in the first quarter against Medical Lake last week.

Colville boys pick up much needed win

Okanagan, RHS
before Christmas

A new press helped Colville run past host Chewelah last Friday night in the annual 395 Showdown with the Cougars. The Indians led 30-20 at halftime and used a 17-6 third quarter run to blow the game open en route to a 61-33 Northeast A League win.
It was Colville’s first win of the season against four losses.
The win came on the heels of a 57-47 loss at Deer Park back on Dec. 16.

But Cougars
have experience

The Jenkins High girl’s basketball team heads into the 2014-2015 season with a deep and experienced roster. The Cougars are ready to move up in the standings of the Northeast A League with heavy doses of athleticism and team basketball.
“Things are looking up,” said head coach Tom Skok. “Our kids are playing hard and putting in the time…it’s starting to show up on the court.”

Cougs ninth at
Deer Park Invite

The Jenkins High wrestling program began its 2014 season with a new head coach (but a familiar face) and the same mission of moving as many wrestlers through district and onto state in Tacoma.
Leading the Cougars this season is longtime assistant wrestling coach and football head coach, Jim Fisk.

Colville comes up inches short of 1A grid title bid

State 1A’s two
best slug it out

Cascade Christian’s defense came up with its biggest stop in school history early last Saturday afternoon to preserve a dramatic and pretty much heart-stopping 27-26 overtime win over Colville High (12-1) in the Class 1A championship game.
For the Indians, who came in ranked second or third in state polls most of the season, it was a gut-wrenching end to an historic season that saw the country boys from the ‘Ville reach the state semifinals for the first time and vault into the championship game at the venerable Tacoma Dome.

Colville to State!

December 1, 2014

This one had “Upset Special” written all over it. But Colville’s formidable defense turned in its biggest stop in a long, but memorable season and the Indians (12-0) moved into the State 1A championship game with a 20-14 semifinal win over upstart Cascade of Leavenworth last Saturday afternoon in frigid Albi Stadium (Spokane). Colville, ranked no. 1 or no. 2 depending on whether it’s a MaxPreps poll or state coaches poll, will oppose formidable and top-ranked Cascade Christian (12-0) in the Tacoma Dome (see related story) on Saturday for the Class 1A championship. Game time is 10 a.m.

Colville runs over La Salle

November 18, 2014

Tough Royal next in quarterfinals

Colville High head coach Randy Cornwell has said more than once that his 10-0 Indians are an “all-weather” football team. Cornwell wasn’t kidding.
CHS was more physical (nothing new there) and more inclined to play through temperatures in the teens at frigid Colville last Friday night. The result: An easy 52-14 win over visiting La Salle in the first round of the State 1A playoffs.
This mismatch was game, set, match early. Colville ran back the opening kickoff. The early lead was negated on a bonehead CHS penalty well behind the run.
