Colville, Lakeside square off in District 7 girl’s opener

Indians need one win
at District to advance

Colville High (14-6) will open the District 7 1A girl’s basketball tournament on Wednesday at Mead High School against No. 3 seeded Lakeside (11-10). Game time is 5 p.m.
The Indians, second-seeded into the district tournament, avoided a loser-out opening game last Saturday night by finishing second during the regular season to league champion and unbeaten defending State 1A champion Freeman (20-0).
Freeman will open the district tournament at Mead on Wednesday against Newport (15-6). Game time is 8 p.m.

Colville hosts regional
wrestling

Colville High made it two District 7 1A wrestling titles in a row last Saturday at Freeman High School. The Indians, who annexed the Northeast A League dual meet championship last week, will host Saturday’s regional meet.
Weigh-in is from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., with wrestling scheduled to get started at around 9:30 a.m. Meet Director is Colville High Principal, Kevin Knight.
The regional, a first for CHS, will feature qualifying wrestlers from the Northeast A and Caribou-Trail leagues.
Chelan annexed last weekend’s CTL District 6 meet.

Bulldogs head to Lake Roosevelt for sub-regional

Tyler Vining top seed to sub-regional

Kettle Falls High wrestled at Republic High School in the Bulldogs’ final all-school match-up of the season last Saturday. The meet also served as seeding to the 2B sub-regional meet on Saturday at Lake Roosevelt High School.
Regional competition will be held at Kittitas High School Feb. 10-11.
The girl’s sub-regional, where Kettle’s Lindsey Olvera will be slotted at 106 pounds, will be held at East Valley High School in Spokane on Saturday. The girl’s sub-regional includes Class B through 4A.

It’s Panorama Tournament time

boy’s favorites

That annual rite of early February, the Panorama League boy’s and girls basketball tournaments, will make their runs this week.
The tournament will culminate on Saturday at Kettle Falls with district seeding and championship games.
In Panorama Tournament opening round games on Tuesday (boys), Northport (16-3, 11-2) hosted Cusick (8-10, 7-5) and Selkirk (8-11, 8-5) was at regular season champion Wellpinit (14-5, 12-0). Both games were scheduled for 6 p.m. starts.

Indians will host Riverside in loser-out

After getting a busy week started on the right sneaker with a big road win at Lakeside, the Colville High boy’s basketball team saw opportunity slip through their grasp last weekend at home.
The Indians (11-9, 6-4) were outplayed by NEA champion Freeman (13-7, 8-2) and by second place Chewelah (15-5, 7-3) on Saturday.

By virtue of their second place Northeast A League finish, the Colville High girls avoid the District 7 1A Tournament loser-out pressure cooker on Saturday and can prepare for the opening round of the double elimination portion of the tournament that gets started Wednesday, Feb. 8 at Mead High School.

Riverside back-to-back

Colville High shared the Northeast A League dual meet championship last winter with Lakeside and Riverside. This time around, there is no sharing—the Indians have annexed the NEA championship over Lakeside and Riverside outright.
The Colville Road Warriors, who have seldom been home this winter on what seems like an extended road trip, annexed a league championship last week with a 48-31 win at Lakeside. The Indians, who went through the NEA unscathed this winter, followed that up one night later with a 39-29 dual match win at Riverside.

Colville boys, girls get past Lakeside

In high school basketball action Tuesday night in the Northeast A League, the Colville High girls remained one game behind unbeaten Freeman after recording a 45-42 road win at Lakeside (10-8, 5-3).
The teams battled on mostly even terms until Colville regained the lead for good in the game’s final four-minutes. Senior post Ashley Knight made two free throws with 10 seconds left to give the Indians their final lead. A desperation three-point attempt by Lakeside was off the mark and Colville (13-5, 7-1) had escaped.

Tribe tryouts on Sunday

The Tribe softball program will hold tryouts on Sunday, Jan. 29 at Colville High School.
Girls trying out for the Tribe 10U, 12U and 14U teams will meet at 10 a.m. on Sunday at CHS. At 10:45 a.m., those players trying out for the 16U and 18U teams will meet.
Director of the Tribe softball program is Jim Ebel.

League dual title on the line

There is nothing like saving the best for last.
Colville High faces its biggest test(s) of the Northeast A League dual season this week when they travel to Lakeside and Riverside for match-ups with the Eagles and Rams.
Colville, who shared the NEA dual meet championship with Lakeside and Riverside last season, would like nothing better than to win the title outright this time around.
Colville travels to Nine Mile Falls and Lakeside High on Thursday (6 p.m. start). The Indians will turn around and head to Riverside on Friday (6 p.m.).
