Equestrian riders to State

Ten Colville High School Equestrian Riders qualified for state competition at the third meet in Wenatchee on April 24-26. McKenna Iverson-gold in keyhole, silver in barrels; Kacie Pierce-bronze in break-away roping, silver in team sorting, gold in birangle; Mary Larsen-gold in figure 8, silver in team sorting, gold in birangle; Emily Blanchard- top four in barrels, Kialeeh Harris-silver in pole bending; Tyler Green-gold in individual flags, silver in keyhole, silver in figure 8; Serina Bowlin- silver in dressage; Leanne Henry bronze in dressage, bronze in hunt seat.

Colville will play NEA leaders this week

Colville High (7-3, 6-2) split a pair of Northeast A League boy’s soccer match-ups last week. The Indians started the week with a 3-1 loss at Newport and ended the week with an easy 8-1 rout of overmatched Deer Park on the CHS pitch last Thursday afternoon.
The loss to Newport marked the second time the Indians have lost to the Grizzlies in three meetings this spring.

Cougars win
four straight

The Jenkins High softball team may be getting hot at just the right time, rolling off four straight victories last week with wins over Newport, Cusick and Freeman. The Cougars are 10-6 overall and 5-6 in Northeast A League play, good for fifth place with only three league games remaining in the regular season.
Head coach Tom Skok was hoping his Cougars would catch a hot streak before the postseason and it looks like they have done that.

Candidate filing ‘season’

Election season is fast approaching and candidates will soon be filing to have their names placed on the General Election ballot.
In person candidate filing for elected positions that appear on the Nov. 3, 2015, General Election ballot will begin on Monday May 11 at 9 a.m. and end on Friday, May 15 at 4 p.m.

Farmers Market opens in Colville Wednesday

It's back! The Northeast Washington Farmers Market will open this Wednesday, May 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its downtown location an Astor and Main Streets by the clock tower in Colville. The start of the market includes a vast assortment of herb, flower and vegetable starts, berry plants, canes and ornamentals. There will also be a selection of early season greens and asparagus and locally handcrafted items.

KF Robotics team places 56th in division

The last couple weeks have been a whirlwind for the Canine Crusaders Kettle Falls Robotics Team 4890, to say the least. After qualifying for the National Championship in St. Louis, Missouri, students scrambled to raise money for the trip, which included dismantling and packing their robot to be shipped halfway across the country.
The community responded to requests for help, donating money and resources to fly 16 of the students to the competition and compete with 600 other teams from around the world.

Area lakes restocked for fishing season

A steady thrashing sound comes from the back of the 1,000 gallon Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) tanker truck as Jake Wolfe, Fish Hatchery Specialist, opens the hatch at the top.
Wolfe peers in at the some 1,700 eight-inch Rainbow trout, also referred to as “Catchables.” The fish are about to be released into Waitts Lake outside of Valley as part of the WDFW’s annual restocking of Tri-County lakes in anticipation of the 2015 Washington state fishing season (starts April 25).

Lifestyle blogger and former Arden resident Terri Elders is one of the authors included in Only Trollops Shave Above the Knee: The Crazy, Brilliant, and Unforgettable Lessons We’ve Learned from Our Mothers, a compilation of “momisms and other things our mothers taught us throughout the years.” The collection will be released April 30 in both print and eBook format on Amazon and other popular retailers.

Everyone is invited to attend Chamber meetings held on Tuesdays at noon at the Eagles Lodge on North Wynne Street. It is a no-host lunch with a speaker or program for each meeting. We try to publicize these meetings in advance so everyone can make plans to attend. If you would like to make a presentation of interest to the community, call Chamber office 684-5973.
