Adams, Lawrence win 2014 Governor’s Cup

Walleye fishermen braved some inclement, wet weather for the 2014 Governor’s Cup Walleye Tournament on Lake Roosevelt last Saturday and Sunday. More than 50 teams competed in the tournament, which is hosted by the Lake Roosevelt Walleye Club.
When the weights had been tabulated Sunday afternoon, the local team of Phillip Adams and Jerry Lawrence topped the 2014 Governor’s Cup Tournament field with 29.42 pounds of walleye.

Water conservation starts with education, says City of Colville

Water conservation may not seem prudent during a summer where the rain has been preva­lent, particularly this month, but then this is not a new con­cept to the City of Colville.
In the past decade since the city developed its existing con­servation plan, new technolo­gies, new attitudes and new goals have raised the bar in terms of water use efficiencies.
Municipal Services Adminis­trator Eric Durpos recently an­nounced at a public meeting to discuss water conservation that the city wants to work with resi­dents toward that goal.

Thelma Floener

Thelma V. Floener, a 52-year resident of Colville, passed away June 27, 2014 at her home in Colville at the age of 74. She was born on Sept. 8, 1939 in Waterville, the daughter of Walter and Vera (Ogle) Schneider.
Thelma was raised and attended school in Waterville. She was a 1958 graduate of Waterville High School. Following high school, she moved Spokane, where she attended Kinman Busi­ness College. It was there that she met her husband to be, Larry Floener, on a blind date. They they have been together since their wedding on July 16, 1961.

Richard McCammon

Richard A. McCammon, a former Colville resident, passed away Jan. 29, 2014 in Yuma, Arizona at the age of 80.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie R. and Agnes V. McCammon of Colville, and by a brother, David, also of Colville. 
He is survived by two sisters, Kathe Morrow, Portland, Oregon and Mary McKee, St. Louis, Missouri; seven nieces and nephews, 14 great nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
Mr. McCammon was a 1952 graduate of Colville High School. He also served in the military and was a school teacher for many years in Los Angeles, California.

Larry Dickey

Larry Thomas Dickey was born on Nov. 19, 1941 in Cheney. He passed away in his home in Kettle Falls on June 23.
He was an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and his community for many years. Larry was well known by many. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and wood-worker.

James Judd

July 2, 2014

James Brewster Judd, age 94, passed away on June 23, 2014 in Inchelium. He was born the son of John Stanley and Winnie (Premo) Judd on May 28, 1920 in Che­halis. At the age of 12, James moved with his family from Chehalis to Inche­lium, where the family farmed and raised cattle.

Movie shoot underway in Chewelah, Colville area

Anticipation and patience were virtues of the day as actors waited in the American Legion Hall in Chewelah for filming on Rum Runners to begin. A movie set in the prohibition era, Rum Runners is directed by Bill Nelson of Valley and stars Yves Bright, Brian Stuart Boyd, Natasha Dee, Sarah Denison, and Vernon Wells of Commando and Mad Max 2 fame. Filming locations include Valley and Chewelah, Colville, Barstow, and The Davenport Hotel in Spokane.

Colville swimmers prep for 40th Colville Invite

Big meet will
be June 28-29

The Colville Valley Swim Club is in the midst of its annual summer season of swimming in the British Columbia Summer Swimming Association circuit (divided into eight regions: Vancouver and District, Vancouver Island, Fraser South, Simon Fraser, Fraser Valley, Cariboo, Okanogan and Kootenays). The Colville-based team, a member of the Kootenay region, is the only U.S. squad in the league.
The club will host its 40th annual swim meet at the Colville Municipal Pool and adjacent Colville City Park June 28-29.

Tribe Pride football camp

June 19, 2014

The annual Tribe Pride Football Camp will be held at Colville High School June 16 to 20 and again June 23-25. The camp, hosted by CHS head coach Randy Cornwell and his staff, will run from 8:15 to 10:30 a.m. each day.
The camp is open to youngsters who are incoming eighth to 12th grade.
Cost of the camp is $20.
