Kettle Falls High will send its full compliment of wrestlers to the 2B/1B regional wrestling tournament at Kittitas High School Friday and Saturday. Wrestling will get underway at 3 p.m. on Friday and at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
Five of Kettleâs seven wrestlers earned medals at last Saturdayâs 2B/1B sub-regional tournament at Lake Roosevelt High School.
âWe will send all of our wrestlers to the next level of competition,â KFHS head coach Joe Kerns said. âFive of seven earned medals.â
Brons enjoying first season of college basketball
Former Colville High School basketball standout Jorden Brons is heading into the home stretch of her first season of college basketball with the Community Colleges of Spokane (Spokane Falls Community College).
The 5-6 freshman guard at CCS has enjoyed her experiences on and off the court playing for the Sasquatch (6-13, 1-6), who held off Wenatchee Valley (7-13, 2-6) Saturday in Wenatchee. Brons scored four points in the win.
The Colville High School Equestrian Team is preparing for three district meets in Wenatchee and Moses Lake.
Twelve riders have been practicing at Slide Creek Arena in preparation for competition and performance, cattle and gaming events.
To help pay for transporting horses, the booster club will hold a Soup Supper and Auction at the Arden Community Hall on Saturday, Feb. 25, starting at 5 p.m.
A variety of soups, green salad, rolls and baked potato bar will be served for a $5 donation.
A Silent Auction, as well as live auction, will start at 6:30 p.m.
Northport has no answers
for hot-shooting Redskins
Wellpinit (16-5) can out firing on all cylinders last Saturday night in the championship game of the Panorama Tournament at Kettle Falls Middle School.
The Redskins dominated inside and outside against cold-shooting Northport (17-3), bolting to a 21-7 first quarter lead and stretching that to 43-14 at halftime.
Game, set match.
Northport managed to outscore Wellpinit 15-11 in the third quarter, but the Runninâ Redskins outscored NHS 19-5 in the fourth quarter.
Two suspects involved in significant criminal cases in Stevens County were recently found competent to stand trial by Eastern State Hospital, giving the Stevens County Prosecutor the ability to move the cases forward.
Eric L Booth, 26, is being charged with the first degree murder of Colville area man Gordon Feist. Feist, 63, was shot during a botched robbery attempt on July 17, 2011. Booth will have a status hearing on Feb. 7 in Stevens County Superior Court.
Indians make four-team
District 7 1A field
Colville High survived the Jordan Wood show last Friday night in a District 7 1A boyâs basketball tournament loser-out game, downing Riverside and their sharpshooter, 65-48.
The win earned the Indians (12-9) a District 7 1A Tournament opening date Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Mead High School against Highway 395 rival and Northeast A League runner-up Chewelah (15-5).
Northeast 1B District starts on Wednesday
Columbia High (20-1) easily captured the Panorama League girlâs basketball tournament and top seed to this weekâs District 7 1B Tournament.
The Lady Lions, with only a non-league holiday tournament loss to top-ranked, two-time 2B state champion Reardan to mar an otherwise spotless record this winter, earned the top seed to the District 7 tournament with a 52-34 win over Cusick (13-7) in the Panorama title game Saturday night at Kettle Falls Middle School.
Mackenzie Parrow and Elizabeth Larrew scored 12 points apiece to lead CHS.
Indians need one win
at District to advance
Colville High (14-6) will open the District 7 1A girlâs basketball tournament on Wednesday at Mead High School against No. 3 seeded Lakeside (11-10). Game time is 5 p.m.
The Indians, second-seeded into the district tournament, avoided a loser-out opening game last Saturday night by finishing second during the regular season to league champion and unbeaten defending State 1A champion Freeman (20-0).
Freeman will open the district tournament at Mead on Wednesday against Newport (15-6). Game time is 8 p.m.
