The Chewelah Cougars opened the 2014 high school football season at home last Friday night against Priest River. Despite jumping out to an early 13-0 lead, the Cougars were unable to hold on to that lead in a wild, high-scoring contest and fell to the Spartans 36-33.
Head coach Jim Fisk knows the Cougars are a work in progress at this juncture.
âWe looked ragged at times,â Fisk acknowledged. âThe parts are there, but we just have to execute.â
CHS back in
Colville High, who made some inroads last season in their final fling in the 2A Great Northern girlâs soccer league, will be a player and a factor in the retooled and improved Northeast A League this fall.
The Indians and Deer Park both relocated from the GNL to the NEA this fall. That will make for a more competitive league.
âWe should be in the mix,â figured head coach Dave Rarrick, the Dean of NEA soccer coaches (entering his 17th season with the CHS girls program). âThere are a lot of new faces in the league.â
Kettle Falls got the 2014 season started last week with a Jamboree at Republic. The Lady Bulldogs, who moved down from the Northeast A League to the Northeast 2B this fall, will get the regular season started on Tuesday at Republic High (6 p.m. start for varsity girls).
