Light it Up returns to Chewelah

September 23, 2015

CHEWELAH—The Chewelah Arts’ Guild needs the public’s help to “Light Up The Park” on Oct. 24 with carved Jack O’ Lanterns.
“Bring as many as you would like,” encouraged spokeswoman, Sarah English.
To count toward Chewelah Arts Guild’s Guinness World Record attempt of 2,015 pumpkins, the Jack O’ Lanterns need to have carved mouths, noses, eyes and yes, even eyebrows.
If that criteria isn’t met, the pumpkins won’t be counted toward the record.
“Be as creative as you wish carving a design,” English said. “Put a logo, character, name, etc. on the backside of the pumpkin if you wish.”

Chewelah offense sputters in tough loss to Warden

September 16, 2015

LHS up next

Chewelah (1-1) came into Friday’s non-league high school football game ready to replicate the success they had the previous week in Priest River. Unfortunately against the Warden Cougars, the JHS offense struggled to gain yardage and keep possession of the ball in a 24-16 loss.
Head coach Jim Fisk summed it up.
“Defensively, we played well enough to win, but offensively, we did not,” Fisk said.
Three interceptions caused most of the damage, killing two scoring opportunities for Chewelah, and setting up a Warden touchdown.

Indians dominated up front in loss to Cheney

September 10, 2015

Offense a no
show in opener

After Cheney High (1-0) controlled the line of scrimmage all night against a mostly green and inexperienced Colville High (0-1) front last Friday night at Cheney in the season-opener for both schools, it’s obvious the Indians have a lot of work to do.
Ty Graham, possibly the best running back Colville will see this fall, ran for 136 yards on 16 carries to lead Cheney to a 28-0 whitewash of the Indians.
Graham scored once on the ground and once when he was the recipient of a weird bounce after a short Colville punt
