Jack Coe

July 5, 2012

Jack Jacobi Coe, Sr. died June 3, 2012, with his children by his side. He was 88.
Jack lived in Camarillo. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn Robinson Coe, and by a son Cary Carson Coe.
He is survived by his children, Jack Jr., Holly, and Jonathan, “by his brother Robert”; by seven grandchildren and by three great-grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, a dedicated father, a superlative uncle and a proud grandfather. His faith in God was evident throughout his life.

CHS Graduate earns Presidential Medal of Freedom

A lot of fuss is made of Dr. William Foege’s height. After all, the man is six-foot-seven-inches tall, so it’s safe to say he gets noticed in a crowded room.
But for a gentleman of such stature, both physically and professionally, he takes it with a grain of salt. That’s a laudable and venerated quality in a man who was recently awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his work in helping to eradicate smallpox in the late 1970s.

Holling walk-off home run powers Colville Legion to sweep

Four games on Friday

Colville picked up an important Junior American Legion Baseball (AA) sweep over visiting Northwest Christian last Friday at Hofstetter Park before the thunderstorms and monsoons hit.
Colville (6-0) had to come from behind to win both games.
In the opener, starter Austin Hegney pitched the first five innings and was sharp. Hegney surrendered three unearned runs in the NWC first inning, but he and Colville were solid after that in a 9-3 win.
Hegney went five innings and struck out seven to pick up the win. He issued one walk and scattered two hits.

Overcoming: Workshops deal with chronic conditions

A free workshop on "Living Well With Chronic Conditions" will begin Tuesday, July 10 at Parkview Senior Living located at 240 S. Silke Road in Colville. These workshops are given by Rural Resources.
Each class will take participants through a series of different subjects such as nutrition, depression, difficult emotions, fatigue, medications, etc. There are six classes total and each class will begin at 1:30 p.m. and go until about 4 p.m. every Tuesday afternoon from July 10 to August 14.

Floyd Leonard (Lenny) McDaniels

Floyd Leonard (Lenny) McDaniels passed away on May 28 at the age of 53. He was a graduate of Kettle Falls High School (class of 1977). Floyd lived in New York and Texas before making Seattle his home. He spent several years working for the Sheraton Hotel in Seattle. He worked there until his death. Lenny was preceded in death by his father, Robert, and by his mother, Viola, and by two brothers, David and George. Lenny is survived by five sisters, Barbra, Janet, Leona, Ton and Mari, as well as by one brother, Carl.

Donald Doran

Donald William Doran has left this earth at the age of 54 in his home near Addy. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lyman Baptist church hall on Sunday, June 24 at 2 p.m. Please join us as we share stories and good times we enjoyed with Don during his life. Don was a 1976 graduate of Burlington-Edison High School where he excelled on the basketball team. He continued to play basketball and was an avid gardener. After high school, he was married to Diane Radcliffe and had two beautiful children. They raised their family in Mt Vernon.

William Pinette

William “Bill” Stanley Pinette passed away in Colville on June 10, 2012 at the age of 91. He was born on June 21, 1920, the son of Stanley and Maude (Anderson) Pinette in Puyallup.
Bill grew up in Tacoma, where he attended and gradu¬ated from Lincoln High School. When he was younger, he was very active in the school orchestra, playing the violin and viola, even playing with the Seattle Symphony. After high school, Bill worked in the Civilian Construction Corps and Forest Service, building trails in the Mt. Rainier area.

Betty Minnich

Betty Hannah Minnich was born April 14, 1919 and passed into eternal life May 27, 2012. Betty Hannah Arnquist was born April 14, 1919 on Lopez Island to Mavis and Willet Arnquist. She grew up in New York City and Hudson, WI, where she graduated from Hudson High School in 1937.

Mavis Withers

Mavis Mary Withers, a 19-year resident of Rice, passed away May 30, 2012 in Colville. Mavis was born in Eureka, South Dakota on June 2, 1940 to Edwin and Otiela (Leidle) Withers.
Mavis was raised and attended a one-room school in Eureka until the age of 12 when her family moved to Moses Lake, where she completed the 10th grade at Moses Lake High School.

Muriel Kolbe-Briody

Muriel June Kolbe-Briody, a seven-year resident of Colville, passed away on June 14, 2012 in Colville at the age of 94. June was born on June 23, 1917 in San Francisco, CA, the daughter of Walter and Elsie (Goldsworthy) Johansen.
June was raised in the Petaluma, CA area, where she attended school. She graduated in 1936 from Petaluma High School and began singing with the San Francisco Opera as a contralto.
