Second-ranked Cashmere end’s Colville’s season

May 29, 2015

Bulldogs make
Final Four

After surviving a scare against Northeast A League rival Deer Park to advance out of the District 7 baseball tournament, Colville High’s (17-4) run at the 1A East Regional at Dan White Field Eastmont/Wenatchee last Saturday proved to be short-lived.
Cashmere, the best Class 1A baseball team in Washington for the past six years, simply had too many weapons in a 12-3 win over Colville Saturday in the regional first round.

Indians in 2nd
behind ML

Colville High (7-3, 6-2) split a pair of Northeast A League boy’s soccer match-ups last week. The Indians started the week with a 3-1 loss at Newport and ended the week with an easy 8-1 rout of overmatched Deer Park on the CHS pitch last Thursday afternoon.
The loss to Newport marked the second time the Indians have lost to the Grizzlies in three meetings this spring.

Cougars win
four straight

The Jenkins High softball team may be getting hot at just the right time, rolling off four straight victories last week with wins over Newport, Cusick and Freeman. The Cougars are 10-6 overall and 5-6 in Northeast A League play, good for fifth place with only three league games remaining in the regular season.
Head coach Tom Skok was hoping his Cougars would catch a hot streak before the postseason and it looks like they have done that.

Indians hold
off Lakeside

A quick, aggressive Colville High soccer team moved into first place in the Northeast A League last Thursday with a wildly entertaining 4-3 win on the home pitch over perennial league power Lakeside.
Colville (4-0 NEA, 6-1 overall) started the week with a 7-1 win at Deer Park (Tuesday). In that mismatch, Alberto Cisneros continued to impress with three goals and an assist for the Tribe. League scoring leader Chris Benson added two goals and a pair of assists for a high-powered offense.

JHS pummeled
by Lakeside

The Jenkins High softball team got back into action after Spring Break and picked up their first Northeast A League win of the season, a 12-3 romp over Medical Lake last week. But the Cougars were swept by hard-hitting Lakeside in a Saturday doubleheader, 9-1 and 16-1.
At the midpoint of the season, JHS is 1-4 in the NEA, and seems poised to make some movement up the league standings. Head coach Tom Skok sees a lot of positives out on the diamond.

Bulldogs go 1-3
during the week

Heading down the homestretch in the Northeast 2B baseball race, Kettle Falls High (8-6) is still very much in the mix for a District 7 2B playoff berth. The District playoffs begin May 5.
KFHS, 1-3 last week after dropping a doubleheader to NE 2B league leader Colfax (11-0) and splitting last Saturday at Davenport, are currently in fourth place behind Colfax, Wilbur-Creston and Davenport. Northwest Christian and Kettle Falls are both tied in fifth place, but the Bulldogs beat the Crusaders in runs scored (tie-breaker).

Liberty, S-dale
on tap this week

Kettle Falls High (8-6, 8-4) is looking for a strong regular season finish in the Northeast 2B fast-pitch softball circuit.
Coming off a week where the Lady Bulldogs went 1-3, the strong finish is imperative.
KFHS was routed by one of the strongest 2B softball programs (every Colfax program?) around in Colfax. The Bulldogs of the Palouse downed Kettle Falls 15-1 (five innings) and 9-0.
On Saturday at Davenport, Kettle split with the Gorillas, losing the opener 14-0 and rebounding for an 11-4 second game win.
