Slow start for Cougs

April 16, 2014

Busy schedule
this week

The Jenkins High baseball team has been scuffling to start the season with a 3-7 record. But head coach Luke Jeanneret hopes solid play during a Spring Break trip to Warden will help give his young team confidence entering the second half of the Northeast A League schedule that gets started this week.
“We played a really good team tough for two games and took one from them,” Jeanneret said of the trip to Warden. “I hope we’ve turned a corner; the kids are right there on the edge. I keep encouraging them and hope they realize how good they are.”

The Indians will be idle until Great Northern League play resumes on Tuesday, April 22 at Deer Park. That match is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start.

Clarkston
make-up on
Thursday

Colville High continues unbeaten this spring.
The Indians of coach Jim Ebel, coming off a rainout weekend where they were scheduled to play at Clarkston, had three days off before a pivotal game last week at East Valley.
“With that rainout at Clarkston, we had three days off,” Ebel said.
Then last Monday, one day before heading to East Valley for a key Great Northern League softball game, the Indians turned in a clunker of a practice.
“We were horrible,” Ebel said. “It was our worst practice of the year.”

Defending Great Northern League and District 7 2A softball champion Colville High got the 2014 softball season off to a fast start last week with three wins.
Playing in weather conditions more reminiscent of a winter that doesn’t seem to want to exit stage left until next November, the Indians came from behind to post a dramatic 5-4 win over Northwest Christian in the season opener for both teams last Thursday at frigid Vaagen Park.
