Cougars lose to
Freeman, Newport

The Jenkins High boy’s basketball team fell in a pair of Northeast A League games last week--61-26 to Freeman on the road and 55-39 to Newport at home.
The Cougars have been hampered by slow starts all season. Last week was no exception. Chewelah was outscored 41-14 in the first quarter. Head coach Jason Norman is at a bit of a loss as to why this keeps happening.

Kettle Falls faces a busy week of Northeast 2B boy’s basketball games this week.
The Bulldogs (0-14, 0-10), who lost to Liberty, 78-45, and to Colfax last Saturday, 62-18, will host Northport on Tuesday in a non-league game (7:30 p.m.) before getting back into NE 2B play on Friday at Springdale (7:30 p.m.).
KFHS will travel to Colbert for a date with Northwest Christian on Saturday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

It was a busy week for the Colville High wrestling team last week.
The Indians started the week last Wednesday night with a much-anticipated Northeast A League showdown with defending 2A state champion and fellow Northeast A League member Deer Park.
The Indians, who came in to the match-up on a two-match winning streak over DP, were favored in their first home match of the winter.

Colville girls pick up wins

Indians move to
4-1 in NEA

Colville High (5-6, 4-1) picked up a pair of hard-earned Northeast A League girl’s basketball wins last week.
The Indians posted a come-from-behind 42-38 road win at Medical Lake back on Jan. 6, outscoring the Cardinals 16-5 in the third quarter.
Back home last Friday night, CHS again fell behind early before another solid second half propelled the Indians to a 47-39 win over a Freeman High (1-9, 1-4) team that is a mere shell of the powerhouse it once was.
Colville will host Riverside on Tuesday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Colville High’s road warriors otherwise referred to as the CHS wrestling team, will actually compete on the home mats for a change on Wednesday night.
The Indians, coming off an impressive win at the 16-team Cheney Invitational last Saturday, will host Deer Park in a Northeast A League dual Wednesday night. The opening match-up gets underway at 7 p.m.
Deer Park has won state championships five of the past six years and looks to be very solid again this winter.

Colville falls to
Tonasket OHS

Colville dropped a pair of games at last week’s West Valley Holiday Tournament.
Colville played Okanogan for the second time in a week, falling 65-49 to the Bulldogs. That was a marked improvement from the first meeting between the two teams.
The Indians also fell to Tonasket, 68-58.
The Indians, who have won only once to date in a difficult December, travel to Medical Lake on Tuesday and return home Friday to host Freeman. Both games are scheduled for 5:45 p.m. starts.

Poor second half dooms Kettle at LRS

Bulldogs busy
this week

Kettle Falls’ poor second half added up to a Northeast 2B girl’s basketball loss at Ritzville High School to Lind-Ritzville/Sprague last Saturday night.
The Lady Bulldogs (4-6) led the Broncos (7-1) with about one-minute left in the first half before the host team went on a run that continued into the second half. LRS outscored Kettle Falls 36-15 in the second half en route to a 51-36 win.
Jenna Barrett scored 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Broncos. Peyton Curtis added 13 points and Tessa Jantz chipped in with 11.
