Unlike last year’s District 7 2A Wrestling Tournament, where Colville High won by the slimmest of margins, the Indians won last week’s District 7 2A championship at East Valley High School by a comfortable margin over the host Knights and perennial State 2A power Deer Park.
The Indians advance 17 of their 21 District wrestlers to the regional tournament at West Valley.

Colville faces three GNL games at home this week

February 4, 2014

Colville High (8-8, 3-5) dropped a pair of Great Northern League boy’s basketball
games last week.
The Indians battled East Valley (14-3, 7-2) on nearly even terms before a pair of late three-pointers by Tanner Jacobs keyed a 57-54 Knights’ win Friday night in Spokane.
One afternoon later in Colville, the Indians hung with high-flying Clarkston (14-2, 6-2) before the Bantams’
superior firepower and speed took over and the visitors raced to a 71-58 win.
Colville had no answer for 6-foot-1 swingman Kage Sobotta, who poured in 27 points.
Matt Hubbard led Colville with 23 points.

Sherman’s wild march to the frozen Super Bowl

January 28, 2014

I will be the first to admit that I am not a big NFL fan. Mostly, that’s because I work the Statesman Sunday Sabbath and don’t see many games.
But I have always been a Seattle Seahawks’ fan and I’ve been a fan of a couple of the team’s key players—quarterback Russell Wilson and cornerback Richard Sherman.
Yes, Pete and the boys have put together a juggernaut full of interesting characters.

Who needs the Dream Duals? Colville wins in Vancouver

January 28, 2014

While the schedule indicated that Colville High would be in the Dream Duals field at East Valley High School last Saturday, in reality, the Indians were competing in a much bigger and more prestigious tournament in Vancouver (Heritage High School).

Deer Park next

It was another good week for Colville High wrestling.
The Indians turned in a rare shutout in last Wednesday’s Great Northern League wrestling dual with visiting Pullman. CHS recorded seven pins and picked up five forfeits in an 83-0 shellacking of the hapless ‘Hounds.
The quickest pin of the night: Austin Donogh’s don’t blink 13 second pin at 126 pounds.

Newport, Freeman race past Bulldogs

January 16, 2014

Riverside, L-side on tap this week

Kettle Falls (5-6, 0-4) dropped a pair of Northeast A League boy’s basketball games last week at home. Back on Jan. 7 at Kettle Falls Middle School, Newport built an early 22-11 lead and made it stand up for a 70-62 win.
On Friday, the Bulldogs simply had no answers for Freeman (5-5, 3-1) on either side of the ball in a lopsided 77-39 loss.
In the loss to Newport (6-6, 2-3), defense tended to take a holiday, as the Grizzlies put up 22 first quarter points.
