Jack George winsLow Net of FieldA field of 41 golfers, most of them from the Chewelah Golf & Country Club, braved constant rain during Saturday’s first round of the 2012 Chewelah Amateur Golf Tournament. The weather was markedly better during Sunday’s final 18 holes.Topping the field and taking home Low Gross of the Field honors was Jason Anderson of Spokane. Anderson toured the tight, tree-lined course in 147. Chewelah’s Jack George captured Low Net of the Field honors.“The weather on Saturday was not the best,” the tournament committee’s Bob Wellman said of a soggy, cool day for golf last Saturday. “We had constant rain almost the entire day. The field of 41 golfers braved the elements on Saturday; they knew that Sunday would be better and it most certainly was. Sunday was dry, sunny and generally warmer.Golf course holds up well to the downpourWellman said that the golf course held up well to the rain, particularly considering the amount of rain that fell in Northeast Washington last week.“Our head golf professional, Jason Pitt, and his staff, along with our Grounds’ Superintendent, Tim Rowe and his staff, worked long and hard to make this tournament a success, regardless of the weather.”Wellman quipped that moods were much better on Sunday afternoon after everyone had a chance to dry out and survive the Saturday slog through the wet grounds, greens, rough and trees. The 2013 Chewelah Amateur will be held the weekend following Father’s Day, Saturday and Sunday, June 22-23.CHAMPIONSHIP FLIGHTGROSS1st – Jason Anderson – 147 (Low Gross of the Field) - Spokane2nd – Kris Herda – 152 - SpokaneNET1st – Peter Schory – 141 2nd – Randy Kirby – 147 - SpokaneTie - 3rd – Dave Park – 148Tie - 3rd – Brett Smith – 148Tie - 3rd – Sky Griepp – 1481st FLIGHTGROSS1st – Scott Reynoldson – 159 - Spokane2nd – Bill Tiderman – 167 - Port AngelesNET1st – Richard VanSlyke – 143 - Deer Park2nd – Brad Kirsch – 147 - SpokaneTie – 3rd - Mike Charron – 152Tie – 3rd - Jerry Kaup – 1522nd FLIGHTGROSS1st – Jack George – 160 (Low Net of the Field - 136)2nd – Red Campbell- 167 – LynnwoodNET1st –– Dave Haskell – 141 2nd – Dave Pohto - 144Tie - 3rd – Bob Wellman – 148 Tie - 3rd – Sandy Davis – 148 Tie - 3rd – Charley Ellett – 148 - Valley3rd FLIGHTGROSS1st – Bob Davila – 180 (Won Playoff) – Nine Mile Falls2nd – Jim Tilla - 180NET1st – Ron Matic – 141 2nd – Archie Beadles– 147 3rd – Buster Brafford – 150*Unless otherwise noted, all golfers listed are from Chewelah.
