Jack George wins
Low Net of Field
A field of 41 golfers, most of them from the Chewelah Golf & Country Club, braved constant rain during Saturday’s first round of the 2012 Chewelah Amateur Golf Tournament.
The weather was markedly better during Sunday’s final 18 holes.
Topping the field and taking home Low Gross of the Field honors was Jason Anderson of Spokane. Anderson toured the tight, tree-lined course in 147.
Chewelah’s Jack George captured Low Net of the Field honors.
“The weather on Saturday was not the best,” the tournaÂment committee’s Bob Wellman said of a soggy, cool day for golf last Saturday. “We had conÂstant rain almost the entire day. The field of 41 golfers braved the elements on SaturÂday; they knew that Sunday would be better and it most certainly was. Sunday was dry, sunny and generally warmer.
Golf course holds up well to the downpour
Wellman said that the golf course held up well to the rain, particularly considering the amount of rain that fell in Northeast Washington last week.
“Our head golf professional, Jason Pitt, and his staff, along with our Grounds’ SuperintenÂdent, Tim Rowe and his staff, worked long and hard to make this tournament a success, reÂgardless of the weather.”
Wellman quipped that moods were much better on Sunday afternoon after everyone had a chance to dry out and survive the Saturday slog through the wet grounds, greens, rough and trees.
The 2013 Chewelah Amateur will be held the weekend folÂlowing Father’s Day, Saturday and Sunday, June 22-23.
