Bill Nieshe Jr.

February 20, 2014

William “Bill” Nieshe Jr., a 40-year resident of the Colville area, passed away on Feb. 11, 2014 in Colville at the age of 84. He was born on Oct. 2, 1929 in Bloomfield, Nebraska, the tenth of 14 children to William and Anna (Muth) Nieshe.
Bill began grade school in Nebraska before moving with his family to Skagit County. There he continued his education and left school early to work and support the needs of his family. Bill’s career in the timber industry began in his early teen years and continued throughout his lifetime.
While in his early twenties, Bill, while visiting an ice cream parlor, took great interest in the young lady working behind the counter. Her name was, Leita Beth Quanz. Their intro¬duction led quickly from friendship to courtship and they were wed on Jan. 18, 1952 in Bellingham. Their first years were spent together in Birdsview and Hamilton.
Bill and Leita later moved to Sedro-Woolley. Their family traveled in compli¬ment to work opportunities, residing in the communities of Ratz Harbor, AK and Sedro-Woolley. It was in 1973 that the couple moved to Colville, where they have re¬sided since. While in Colville, Bill worked for Vaagen Brothers Lumber Company. After more than 20 years, he retired on Aug. 13, 1994.
Bill and Leita loved to travel and fondly reminisced of the four trips to Europe, one to Hawaii, and numerous trips to Kansas (Leita’s Beth’s birthplace). Bill and Leita also enjoyed several ferry rides to Alaska and many journeys over the Cas¬cades to visit family and friends in Western Washington. He spent many hours enjoying the outdoors while hunting and fishing. He had a strong work ethic and appreciated that quality in others. Bill cherished his family and embraced any time he could share with them, whether going on family fire¬wood cutting expeditions or simply sharing their company. He always made their family time a time to remember.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carl, Ray, Lawrence, Fritz, and Lory Nieshe; sisters, Luella Johnson, Alma Nieshe and Cedes Olson
