Kettle Falls High sent part of its wrestling team to the Liberty (Spangle) Invitational last Saturday.
The Bulldogs may not have had quantity at Liberty, but judging from the third place team trophy Kettle Falls brought home, there was certainly plenty of quality to go around.
Kettle’s Garrett Anderson placed third at 106 pounds and Lindsey Olvera was fourth at 112. Eric Ross was fifth at 125 pounds; Jacob Walsh was fifth at 135.
Winning titles at Liberty were Dan Kearney (152 pounds), Austin Anderson (160) and Tyler Vining (195).
“Dan, Austin and Tyler won by pins and we were able to collectively earn enough points to bring home the third place trophy,” head coach Joe Kerns said.
Kerns said that the Bulldogs continue to work to get more wrestlers on the mats in the early season.
“We have had different things keeping some people off the mats,” Kerns said. “But we are looking at medical releases on a couple of the kids and then we will be bringing a full team into action over the (Christmas) break.”
The Kettle Falls Middle School wrestling team competed on Tuesday in the district championships at Colville.
