Carol Boyd

January 16, 2013

Carol Jane (Holterhoff) Boyd passed away on Jan. 1, 2013. Carol was an 18-year resident of Colville. She was born the daughter of Robert A. and Jane E. (Fox) Holterhoff on May 26, 1935 in Okanogan. Carol spent much of her youth in Holden, at the end of Lake Chelan, where her father worked for Howe Sound Mine. She attended school in Holden until the eighth grade and finished her high school education at the Annie Wright Seminary in Tacoma.
After high school, Carol attended school to become a hair¬dresser. She met her future husband, James L. Boyd, in Holden and they were married on July 16, 1955. The couple settled in Republic, where they raised their children, John and Mark.
Carol worked in the Ferry County Clerk’s Office until they moved to Rio Vista, CA in 1979. After Jim retired in 1994, they returned to Washington to spend their retirement years in Colville. Before Jim’s passing in 2007, the couple made yearly trips back to California to visit their children and grandchil¬dren.
Carol loved her family very much. While her sons were grow¬ing up, it was important to her to be involved with and at¬tend any activities that her sons were involved in. Carol always wanted her children to know that she supported them and was proud of them, and this continued when it came to her grand¬children, Nicole and Zack.
Throughout her life, Carol was an avid swimmer, teaching many of the children of Republic to swim. While in Republic, Carol was a member of the Can-Can Cuties, performing at the annual Prospectors’ Days and in parades. Carol was a master knitter and anyone who knew her had at least one of her beau¬tifully hand-knitted creations. Her family enjoyed her cable knit sweaters, hats, scarves, socks, and blankets. If Carol heard of a baby arriving, she would set to work on a blanket or sweater set. Carol also enjoyed reading and tending her garden.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Jane Holterhoff, and by her husband, James L. (Jim) Boyd.
Carol is survived by her sons, John J. and Patty (Murray) Boyd of BZ Corners; and Mark C. and Barbara (Fosdick) Boyd of Rio Vista, CA; grandchildren Nicole Boyd, Los Angeles, CA; and Zack Boyd of Santa Barbara, CA.
Carol is very much loved by her family. She will be greatly missed by both her family and many friends.
