Changes afoot in CHS coaching ranks

There are some coaching changes and openings announced in recent days at Colville High School. What has been common knowledge for quite sometime became official last week with the announcement by Colville High School Athletic Director (Student Programs’ Director) Kelly Carr that Ray Clark and Al Bushnell will assume co-head coaching duties for the CHS girl’s basketball program for the 2011-2012 season. Clark and Bushnell, who have coached the CHS varsity girl’s program previously and have longtime coaching associations with the girl’s basketball program in Colville, will be assisted by Clark’s daughter, Kajsa Brons. Don Teeguarden, who stepped down last spring as CHS varsity girl’s coach, will remain on staff and will coach the junior varsity, Carr said. Teeguarden also headed up the 2011 summer basketball program. “I feel fortunate to have four strong and experienced coaches to work with CHS basketball players for the upcoming season,” Carr said. “They have been a part of CHS athletics for many years and bring to the program an understanding of what CHS athletics is all about. “Our current basketball players have all been coached by some or all of them at some point in their development, and are familiar with expectations this group of coaches will have of them.” Carr also said that the CHS head baseball coaching position held by Mike Bestrom for the past three seasons is currently vacant. Bestrom led the Indians to an 18-8 record in 2011 and a State 1A regional berth. Carr said that CHS will be “advertising the (baseball) opening ASAP.”
