CHS track team could use some volunteer help

March 11, 2014

Jamboree Saturday

The Colville High track and field team will kick-off its season on Saturday, March 15 with the annual Black & White Jamboree. The meet starts at noon on the CHS track.
Also expected to compete on Saturday in the shakedown cruise will be Kettle Falls High.
CHS co-head coaches Jodi Lehman and Randy Stebbins are in serious need of officials/volunteers to help run the meet.
“We are in serious need of help there,” Stebbins, like Lehman, a former assistant coach under Ty Brown, who resigned from his post after the 2013 season and is now track and field coach at West Valley.

About 40…

“It takes about 40 volunteer officials to put on a track meet and we are definitely short of volunteers at this time.”
Volunteer officials’ coordinator is Stephanie Morehouse. If you can volunteer some time on Saturday afternoon, email smorehouse@colsd.org or Stebbins at rstebbins@colsd.org. Or call CHS at 684-7800.
For more information, call Stebbins at 675-4032.
After the Jamboree, the Indians will host the annual Ezra Gordon meet on March 29. That meet, which annually draws more than 20 area high school teams, will start at 10:30 a.m.
CHS will feed its volunteer force at that meet, Stebbins said.
“We need to do that because that meet is a five to six-hour commitment,” Stebbins said of the Ezra Gordon meet. “We don’t need quite as many volunteers for the Jamboree because we are running only seven events.”
The early season weather has been mostly cooperative to date. The weather forecast for the remainder of the week indicates a warming trend with mostly dry skies and temperatures in the low 50s.
Stebbins said when practices started earlier this month, he didn’t send out runners because “it was so slippery. Then, on Tuesday, everybody was able to get out for awhile. And by Wednesday, the track was clear.”
