The C.M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, MT. has announced the artists selected as the first members of the Russell Skull Society of Artists, a new, elite group of contemporary Western artists. Colville resident and metal artist Jerry McKellar is one of those artists.
The C.M. Russell museum houses the most complete collection of celebrated artist Charles M. Russell works and personal objects in the world.
Each year, society members will be granted membership based on the degree to which they satisfy the membership criteria.
C.M. Russell Museum Executive Director Michael Duchemin said, “We are very excited to host the country’s top talent, and the feedback from the selected artists has been jubilant.” Artist Gary Lynn Roberts describes the pride of being selected as a society member: “In my 40 years of painting, this honor ranks at the top. I am so proud to be a part of something the museum is putting together to help bring western art to the general public.”
The criteria for membership in the Russell Skull Society of Artists include the artist’s history of support and commitment to the mission of the C.M. Russell Museum and their accomplishments as demonstrated by awards and exhibits. The strength and history of the artist’s sales in The Russell: An Exhibition and Sale to Benefit the C.M. Russell Museum are also part of the criteria.
The Russell Skull Society of Artists will have the opportunity to showcase and sell their work in display booths during The Russell: An Exhibition and Sale to Benefit the C.M. Russell Museum. This signature fund-raising event for the non-profit museum will be held at the Great Falls Civic Center March 19-23, 2014.
