at District to advance
Colville High (14-6) will open the District 7 1A girl’s basketball tournament on Wednesday at Mead High School against No. 3 seeded Lakeside (11-10). Game time is 5 p.m.
The Indians, second-seeded into the district tournament, avoided a loser-out opening game last Saturday night by finishing second during the regular season to league champion and unbeaten defending State 1A champion Freeman (20-0).
Freeman will open the district tournament at Mead on Wednesday against Newport (15-6). Game time is 8 p.m.
Lakeside got 21 points from Taylor Flemming in a 63-44 loser-out win at Nine Mile Falls last Saturday night over Chewelah (2-19).
In the other loser-out game on Saturday, host Newport got 25 points from Taylor Lewis in a 61-40 elimination of Riverside (7-14).
Miranda Frederick added 17 points for Newport, who led 36-18 at halftime.
The tournament will continue on Friday, Feb. 10 with Wednesday’s opening game winners squaring off (8 p.m.) for the District 7 1A championship and top seed to the Bi-District Tournament against the Caribou-Trail League. That tournament starts next Tuesday night with loser-out games at Moses Lake High School. The double elimination portion of the tournament will then move to Chelan High School.
Wednesday’s losers will square off on Friday back at Mead High for the third and final seed to the Bi-District (6-7) Tournament. Game time is 5 p.m.
