Dave Dubois

David L. Dubois of Chewelah passed away August 4, 2011. Dave was born February 25, 1930, in Colville to Numa and Ruby Dubois. David spent almost his entire life in Stevens County, attending school in Arden, Loon Lake and Colville. He graduated from Colville High School as class valedictorian in 1948. Dave enlisted in the Air National Guard during the conflict in Korea, serving in England from August 1951 to June 1952 with the 81st Fighter Wing.
In 1954, Dave married Verna Steele in Hunters. They made their home in Pullman while finishing their education at Washington State College. After graduation they moved to Colville where Dave farmed and worked in the Stevens County Engineer’s office. Dave & Verna have three children, Debbi (Randy) Ross, Aberdeen, WA; Denice (Brian) Ross, Chewelah; and Rick (Cheryl) Dubois of Spokane Valley.
In 1964 the family moved from Colville to Chewelah where Dave farmed until 1976 when he went to work for the local John Deere dealership. He also worked for Richmond Logging and the Chewelah Golf and Country Club as their bookkeeper until he retired in the 90’s.
Dave loved to raise a large garden each summer and share it with his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren looked forward to picking out their Halloween pumpkins from Grandpa’s garden. Dave also enjoyed hunting, picking huckleberries, fishing, pinochle and spending time at their cabin in Loon Lake.
Dave is survived by his wife, Verna, of 57 years, his three children and their spouses, sister, Yvonne (Herb) Curtis; sister, Rosemarie (Joe) Waltner; brother, Philip Dubois. He is also survived by grandchildren: Jayme (April) Ross, Cari Ross-Koler, Cami (Harley) Revel, Casi (Dion) Serra, Aaric (Misti) Ross, Rhea Ross, Ryan (Mariah) Dubois, and Jason Dubois. Great-grandchildren: Kale Koler, Krislyn Koler, Daniel Ross, Keona Ross-Doukas, Jacob Ross, Cole Revel, Cooper Revel, and Noah Ross. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Phyllis (Jack) Shrauger
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, August 8 at the United Church of Christ in Chewelah, where Dave was a member, with internment following at the Chewelah Memorial Park.
