Delbert Edward Rieckers, a lifetime resident of North¬port, passed away on April 23, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, family at his side. Delbert was born on Sept. 5, 1941 in Colville, the son of Alva and Helen (Snyder) Rieckers.
Delbert was raised in Northport, where he attended school. On Jan. 24, 1958, Delbert married Frances K. âCozyâ Striker. They began a family and made their home in Northport. Delbert had a great appreciation for a full dayâs work, an ideal he put into practice by the age of 15.
Delbert worked with his stepfather, Larry McNamee, and the McNamee Logging Company. They provided lumber to many local mills over the years, including Carneyâs Pole Co., Sauvolaâs Mill, Vaagen Brothers Lumber Company and Boise. They harvested timber and transported timber from Idaho and Washington to the local mills. Over the years, Delbert assumed greater responsibility and eventually became a one-third owner and operator of McNamee Logging Inc. He considered a twelve-hour day a âhalf-dayâ of work and welcomed every hour of work he could take. Due to his failing health, Delbert was forced to retire in 2010.
In reflections given by his family, Delbert was simply, âthe greatest man they ever knew.â He instilled the value of hard work, generosity and love for family and fellow man. Delbert was a loving father and considered any child in need, his own. He was also an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Delbert took many Alaskan hunting adventures and brought back many exciting and sometimes life-challenging encounters with the wild. Delbert enjoyed many years of racing stock cars at the Northport Speedway and snowmobiles. He enjoyed the outdoors on foot, four-wheeler, horseback, and snow mobile and from his recliner.
Delbert was preceded in death by his father, Alva Rieckers; stepfather, Larry McNamee, and five grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, âCozyâ Rieckers and dog Duffy, at the home; Mother, Helen McNamee, Northport; daughters, Debi Wiley and husband, Steve, Northport; Suzi Fram and husband, Dave, Colville; sons, Greg Rieck¬ers and wife, Margo, Northport; Billy Rieckers and special friend, Marian, Northport; Dusty Rieckers and wife, Tracey, Northport; sister, Dena Owens and husband, Greg, Northport; Darelynn Brunette, and husband, Yogi, Northport; brother, Den McNamee and wife, Stacy, Kettle Falls; 13 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
