Dennis Dean Ferguson, a resident of Kettle Falls, passed away on July 4, 2012 in Colville at the age of 63. Dennis was born on Feb. 9, 1949 in Colville, the son of Frank Esco and MilÂ¬dred Louise (Hanlin) Ferguson.
He was raised in Colville, where he attended school and graduated as a 12-year senior from Colville High School in 1967. Dennis then attended Wenatchee Valley College for one year before transferring to Eastern Washington University.
In the fall of 1969, he joined the Army National Guard, reÂ¬turning to college following six months active training. While at Eastern Washington University, Dennis met Sandy L. Meyers. They were wed on Aug. 28, 1970 and returned to Colville where they began a family.
Dennis worked for a time with the U.S. Forest Service, Colmac Coil and Millieâ€™s Shoeâ€™s. In 1979, he began his career with the City of Colville in the water/sewer department. Dennis retired in 2009 as the superintendent of the waÂ¬ter/sewer department, completing 30 years of service to the City of Colville and 17 years as the department superintenÂ¬dent. He entered retirement with wholehearted dreams of travel, camping and well-earned relaxation. In 2010, Dennis was diagnosed with cancer and beÂ¬gan a valiant fight for his life.
To his family, Dennis was known for his family first attiÂ¬tude, his ability to play hard, and a work ethic that never stopped. He was a man who enjoyed his workshop and a good campfire. Dennis could be found behind a boat on the ColumÂ¬bia, disÂ¬playing new tricks on a knee board well into his 50â€™s. He could also split wood with the best of them. He enjoyed traveling, esÂ¬pecially to the Black Hills, camping, fishing, huntÂ¬ing, and maintaining his well-manicured yard. Dennis was genÂ¬erous of himself and his resources, always wanting to provide well for his family and only the best for his wife. He was a wonÂ¬derful husband, father, grandfather, sibling, uncle and friend.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sandy Ferguson, at the home; daughters, Tammy Ringer and her husÂ¬band, Sam, Kettle Falls; Jenny Dunlap and her husband, Kevin, Kettle Falls; a son, Tony Ferguson and his wife, Lei, Minnetrista, MN; grandchildren, Nichole, Kyle, Matthew, Taylor, Quentin, Jessy and Gracie; a twin brother, Dave Ferguson and his wife, Laurie, Spokane; sisters, Bobette Birch and her husband, Ken, Cowiche; Donna Ford, Uhrichsville, OH; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
The funeral service for Mr. Dennis D. Ferguson will beÂ¬gin at 1 p.m., Thursday, July 12 at the Steven County Ag-Trade Center in Colville. A graveside service will follow at the Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville. Pastor Jim Kays will officiate.
