Richard ‚ÄúDick‚ÄĚ Donald Delp, age 79, a longtime resident of the Kettle Falls area, passed away on July 6, 2012 at his home. Dick was born on Dec. 18, 1932 in Marcus, the seventh of 15 children to Elbert Glen and Julia Margaret (Anderson) Delp.
Dick attended school through the eighth grade and then went to work alongside his father in the woods. This be¬¨gan a lifetime career in the logging industry. Dick enjoyed his time in the woods and working independently as a timber faller. He also had the ability to help in all facets of timber harvesting. Dick worked many years with Brauner Lumber Company. He later worked several years for Ted Peasley before retiring with Larry Tarbert Logging when Dick was 64. His re¬¨tirement was spent tending to the crops, caring for his horses and cattle and relax¬¨ing on the back porch with a breathtaking view from the ranch.
Dick married Jacqueline Helen Eslick on Dec. 30, 1957 in Colville. They began their life together at the Delp homestead on Deadman Creek, where they began a family. They would later reside for a time in Chewelah, Kelly Hill and Kettle Falls before returning to the Delp homestead in 1968. In February of 1984, they moved to the Eslick homestead, where they have re¬¨sided since.
Dick took every opportunity to be in the outdoors, whether working, hunting, camping, horseback riding with his kids, working the ranch and livestock or taking wilderness drives in the family vehicles. He loved his family and spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchil¬¨dren.
Dick was a 4-H leader for several years, helping the kids with their horses.
He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Dean Delp, in 1984; brothers, Ted, Ken, Bill, and Bob, and sisters, Lola, Annie and Grace.
Dick is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jackie Delp, at the home; daughters, Leona Coleman and her husband, Rich, Ket¬¨tle Falls; Nancy Baker and her husband, J.R., Kettle Falls; Vicki Smith, Knightdale, NC; Pam Humphrey and husband, Allen, Colville; 13 grandchildren, Steve Sanders, Scott Sanders, Jeremiah Hood, Rick Hood, Tara Richards, Ja¬¨mie Kinney, Shane, Heath, Nicholas, and Neal Burkhart, Josh Gleave, Wyatt Humphrey, Kim Deardorff; two brothers, Lewis Delp and his wife, Kathy, Kettle Falls; Jim Delp, Pomeroy; three sisters, Helen Behrens, Spokane; Mary Sletten and her husband Ray, Chattaroy; Linda Shaw and husband, Buck, Kettle Falls; nu¬¨merous nieces, nephews and ex¬¨tended family.
The funeral service for Mr. Richard ‚ÄúDick‚ÄĚ D. Delp will be¬¨gin at 11 a.m., Friday, July 13 at the Kettle River Grange near Barstow. A graveside service will follow at the Meyers Falls Cemetery in Kettle Falls.
