Don Callan

August 2, 2013

L. Donohue (Don) Callan passed peacefully at his home in Selah on July 19, 2013.
Don was born in Northport in 1927 to Tom and Myrtle Callan. He grew up on the ranch on Kelly Hill and was a true cowboy. He loved his horses and dogs.
Don enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. in 1945 and served with honor in Hawaii, Okinawa and North China. Don loved this country and proudly flew his flag. He truly believed that we live in the greatest country in the world.
Don had many interests and loved adventure.
In his earlier years, Don was a scuba diver and became an instructor. He served with the Lewis County Underwater Search and Rescue.
Don loved skiing and was a full certified ski instructor and loved teaching.
Don graduated from Washington State University in 1954 and worked for 30 years with the USDA Farmers Home Administration. He worked in several towns in Washington State, including Auburn and Ephrata.
Don married the love of his life, Arline Adams, in 1954. Don was a true family man, leading the family on many an adventure, to include camping and skiing trips and many others too numerous to mention. Don was loving, supportive and a great example of living life to the fullest and doing the right thing.
Don loved everyone; no one was a stranger. He was respected by all and treated all with respect.
Don was a proud member of the Colville Confederated Tribe.
After retirement, Don served as a volunteer firefighter and a school bus driver in Ephrata.
He is survived by his wife, Arline Callan; his daughters, Shirley Jewett (Craig) and Kim Wakefield (Steve); his son, Pat Callan (Shelli); and his sisters, Inez Droz-Thorington and Gladys Collins (Forest). He is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A special thank you to our friend Kat for her love and care. A special thank you to our Hospice Nurse Deb. And, a special thank you to our friend Kim N.
Thank you so much.
A memorial service was held July 24 at Keith & Keith Funeral Home in Yakima. To share a memory of Don, visit www.keithandkeith.com.
