Eleanor V. (Cox) Bestrom, a life-long resident of the area, passed away on June 6, 2011, in Colville at the age of 83. She was born on Jan. 1, 1928, in the Bruce Creek area of Evans, the daughter of Chester and Anna (Peterson) Cox.
Eleanor was raised in Bruce Creek on the family farm. She attended school at the Bruce Creek Schoolhouse and the Marcus School before graduating from Colville High School in 1945. Eleanor fell in love with Kenneth Bestrom, and they were married on May 21, 1950. They lived on their farm where they raised their three children. Eleanor worked hard caring for her family. She also worked as a secretary at the Washington State University Extension Office and later as the secretary of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Colville for 23 years.
Eleanor always had a beautiful garden and canned her fruits and vegetables. In her younger years, she was active in bowling leagues and loved playing Pinochle with Ken and her friends. Eleanor was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Ft. Colville Grange, and the Aladdin Home Ec. Club. Eleanor was very talented in making quilts, and her family will treasure her handiwork for many years to come.
Eleanor was preceded in death by Kenneth, her young daughter, Janice Louise Arlene Bestrom in 1952, and by her parents, Chester and Anna Cox.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Bestrom of Colville; her sons: Ron Bestrom and wife Beth, Puyallup; and, Duane Bestrom and Shirleen Oliveira, Colville; her six grandchildren: John, Jason, Angela, Adam, Erin and Erik; her great-granddaughter, Jade; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Eleanor Bestrom was held June 14 at the Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville. The graveside service followed at the Highland Cemetery in Colville.
