A meeting to discuss the junior high and high school football programs will be held Monday, August 11 at 6 p.m. at Northport School, according to NHS football coach, Shane Fox.
âIt will be an informational meeting,â Fox said. âWe want to talk about the varsity and junior high football programs and some of the fund-raisers we have planned to raise money (for junior high football).â
Fox reminds all prospective football playersâhigh school and junior high alikeâthat an annual physical must be completed to practice.
Northport needs to play junior high school football to have a better chance of being competitive in the Northeast 1B and against the likes of state power Cusick.
âWe have a good group of seventh and eighth-graders who want to play,â added Fox, who will likely coach the junior high football team. âWe canât have eighth-graders playing varsity football against teams like Cusick. Thatâs how you get kids hurt and how they lose interest.â
