Fund-raiser on to start Northport Jr. High football

July 30, 2014

For the first time in school history, Northport Junior High School plans to field a football team this fall. That is, if enough funding can be raised to purchase equipment.
A meeting to discuss the junior high and high school football programs will be held Monday, August 11 at 6 p.m. at Northport School, according to NHS football coach, Shane Fox.
“It will be an informational meeting,” Fox said. “We want to talk about the varsity and junior high football programs and some of the fund-raisers we have planned to raise money (for junior high football).”
Fox reminds all prospective football players—high school and junior high alike—that an annual physical must be completed to practice.
Northport needs to play junior high school football to have a better chance of being competitive in the Northeast 1B and against the likes of state power Cusick.
“We have a good group of seventh and eighth-graders who want to play,” added Fox, who will likely coach the junior high football team. “We can’t have eighth-graders playing varsity football against teams like Cusick. That’s how you get kids hurt and how they lose interest.”
If you would like to help, call Northport Athletic Director Eric Stark (675-1458), Highway 25 North, Lot no. 2, Northport, WA 99157, or Fox (680-5298), 640 Highland Loop Road, Kettle Falls, WA 99141. Please make checks payable to the Northport School District.
