Gale Deradorff, a long time resident of Colville, passed away on April 12, 2014 in Colville at the age of 81. Gale was born on January 6, 1933 in Mount Ayr, Iowa, the son of William and Gladys (Jones) Deardorff.
Gale was raised and attended school in McCook, Nebraska, and after completing the sixth grade began working to help support his family. Soon after his eighteenth birthday, he joined the United States Army and served during the Korean War, until he was discharged in 1953.
After returning home, Gale married Deloris Elwood in 1954 in Oregon. He began his career working for Boise Cascade and was able to perform nearly any duty at the mill. His specialty for many years was mixing glue for making plywood. In 1964 they moved to Colville and he continued working for Boise until his retirement in the late 1980’s. Gale had a very strong work ethic so when he was contacted by Boise to be a plywood inspector at Kettle Falls and Omak he gladly took the position. He also had some other part-time jobs, working at the car wash in Colville, and managing the storage units at Miller’s Storage.
When his beloved Deloris passed away in 2012, Gale was totally heartbroken and his greatest wish was to join her again someday.
Gale enjoyed the outdoors, especially if he got to spend it with his family. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, were his pride and joy. He was willing to sacrifice anything necessary to make sure his family was taken care of. Gale was truly a “Man’s Man” and was deeply loved by his family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris; his parents; daughter, Sharon Deardorff; son-in-law, Steve Mangis.
His best friend and brother, Bob Deardorff passed away on April 18, 2014, in Spokane on the day of Gale’s funeral service.
Gale is survived by his daughters, Karen Mangis of Colville, Cindy Ness of Colville, Becky Forsyth of Colville; sons, William Deardorff and wife, Donna of Spokane, and Michael Deardorff and wife, Amanda of Spokane; 19 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren.
