Giving peace a chance

Community members are invited to contribute a pinwheel to the peace sign as well, says CHS art teacher Tracey Delyea.

Colville High School sophomore Chance Musselman secures a pinwheel into the ground last Friday as part of a 9/11 memorial project. Students made pinwheels and formed a peace sign out of them on the school’s lawn as a tribute to those who died 10 years ago in the terrorist attacks. CHS teachers Tracey Delyea, Ty Brown and Vicky Broden organized the project. According to Delyea, the pinwheels will be left up for 10 days, through Sept. 21, which is International World Peace Day. Delyea said she printed over 300 cards from www.pinwheelsforpeace.com to create the pinwheels, which were placed on pencils donated from the United States National Guard. “We invite and encourage community members to make their own pinwheel and add to our peace sign,” said Delyea.
