Helen Anne Crabtree, an 11-year resident of Colville, passed away on June 5, 2014 at the age of 94. Helen was born on June 16, 1919 in Gilbert, AZ, the daughter of Harry S. and Madge (Rowell) Holden.
Helen was raised in Edgerton, KS,, where she attended school and graduated from Edgerton High School in 1937. On Nov. 7, 1942, she married Wayne A. Crabtree in San FranÂ¬cisco, CA. They moved to Antioch, CA in 1944 and began a family. In 1959 they relocated to Chugiak, AK, where she beÂ¬gan working as a secretary in the accounting field. Her work experience opened opportunities with the Ft. Richardson Army, District Engineers and Elmendorf Air Force Base. Helen worked for over ten years within Federal Civil Service PosiÂ¬tions.
In 1975 the couple settled into the Shelton community after a year-long stay in Kent. Their time in Western Washington also included a seven-year stay in Olympia, during which Wayne preceded her in death in 2001. Helen moved to Colville in 2003 to be nearer to her family.
Helen enjoyed reading, needlework, knitting and crocheting. She was a member of the American Federation of Government Employees Union and the Washington Old Time Fiddlers AssoÂ¬ciation. Helen was also an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Madge and Harry Holden in 1972; a son, Jan Francis Crabtree in 1959, and her sister, Ruth Llewellyn in 1997.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Tina Jones, Colville; her sons, Frank Crabtree, Seattle and Larry Crabtree of Cowpens, SC; one sister, Mary Turner, Benicia, CA; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ms. Helen A. Crabtree will be laid to rest at the Mills and Mills Memorial Park Cemetery. A Mass will be offered for the repose of her soul at 4:30 p.m. on July 19, 2014 at the ImÂ¬maculate Conception Catholic Church in Colville.
