Helen Fredrickson

Helen M. Fredrickson, a lifetime resident of the North­port and Colville area, passed away peacefully Jan. 11, 2014 in Colville at the age of 89. She was born at the family home on Deep Creek on June 4, 1924 to Charles and Mary (Nurro) Maki, immigrants from Finland.
Helen was raised in the Northport area where she began her education at Doyle School. She later attended Northport High School and graduated in 1942. She worked in Spokane and Marysville before moving back to Deep Creek to drive school bus. On April 8, 1944, she married Carl Fredrickson in Colville. They resided on Deep Creek for 42 years. Helen was employed at the Northport School District from 1966 to 1986 as a Title I Aide and Librarian.
Helen enjoyed embroidering, gardening, canning and helping on the farm. For many years, Carl and Helen attended grange dances, along with square dancing. They enjoyed fishing at Deep Lake and staying at their lake property. They loved play­ing pinochle with family and friends.
Helen was a 70-year member of the South Fork Grange. She was also a member of the Colville Senior Citizens’ Center and the Retired Public Employees. She will be remem­bered for her sharp mind, her loving nature and her sense of humor.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband Carl and her sister, Elsie.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Sandy Iver­son and husband, Larry, Tigard, OR; Fred Fredrickson and special friend, Marie, Northport; Debbie Heckly and her hus­band Reed, Republic; Donna Cox and her husband, Doug, Colville; grandchildren, Mat­thew Fredrickson, Shane Cox, Ter­rin Mace, Luke Heckly, Ste­phen Heckly, Van Iverson, Jill Mosby; great-grandchildren, Jazlyn Fredrickson, Xander Fredrickson, Beckett Mace, Bran­don Hallam, Lyndsi Foral and Brecken Iverson.
Funeral service for Helen M. Fredrickson will be held on Jan.16 at the Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, starting at 11 a.m.
