Ideas to save the Auto-Vue

August 5, 2013

After Auto-Vue Drive In Theatre’s owner Steve Wisner made the announcement last year that he would close the over 60-year-old outdoor theatre at the end of this summer, community members and customers from near and far. Voiced their opposition.
But with a price tag of $186,000 to make the transfer to digital, refurbish the sound and projector booth, and replace the screen, he wasn’t sure how it was going to happen. After a page called Save the Auto-Vue Drive In, started by a patron in Kettle Falls, cropped up on Facebook, the ideas and encouragement on how to keep the Colville business alive began to fly via social networking.
Last month, Wisner announced that he and his wife, Karen, and their daughter, Kellie, are looking to garner public support to help raise the necessary funds for drive in repairs. They have started an account at http://www.gofundme.com/3nx3fs and posted that they are lowering the fund amount from $186,000 to $136,000 because, “We have an opportunity in getting a screen at a lesser price.”
So far, the amount raised on Go Fund Me is $3,660.
