Irene V. Mason

March 19, 2014

Irene Velma Mason of Kettle Falls passed away on March 8, 2014 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane at the age of 72. Irene was the daughter of Arthur and Alice (Layland) Rau of Kansas City, Missouri.
She especially enjoyed music, gardening, crocheting, home crafts, and traveling.
Irene loved reading books, especially westerns.  Her favorite authors were Louis L’amour and Zane Grey.
When she was a little girl and people asked her what she wanted to do when she grew up, she replied, “I want to go to Texas and shoot the bull.” She fulfilled her childhood dream of moving out west and living on a ranch. This is where she raised her four children.
She is survived by her son, William, of Georgetown, DE; daughters, Merrii, of Kettle Falls; Laura of St Ignatius, MT; Rebecca, of Kodiak, AK, and son-in-law, Dale of Colville. She is also survived by her brother, Jerry (Glenda) of Blue Springs, MO; and her sister Dolores (Jery) of Medford, OR; eight grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Alice; husband, Donald; and sister, Ollivene.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Epilepsy Foundation.
A funeral mass for Irene was held on Wednesday, March 12 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colville.
Please visit the website at and sign the guest book. Danekas Funeral Chapel & Crematory were entrusted with the arrangements.
Irene always had music in her heart and a song on her lips.
