Iver Burke

April 8, 2014

Iver passed away the evening of March 25, 2014 in Los Angeles, CA. Iver was born in Corfu (Frenchman Hill) to Edward and Clara Burke.
In the 1920’s the family moved to the Cedonia area and later settled on a ranch on the Spokane Indian Reservation in Fruitland. Iver and his brother, William (Bill), helped their parents on the farm. Both boys attended and graduated from Hunters High School.
Iver enlisted in the US Army and served in Italy during WWII. After returning home from the war, Iver married Lois Rose and they raised their three daughters, Sharon, Nancy, and Linda on the farm in Fruitland.
In 1997, Iver went on a cruise with his grandson, Brady, and while on the cruise he met and later married Diana Donavan. Iver and Diana spent many enjoyable years traveling between the Fruitland ranch and Diana’s home in Los Angeles and visiting with their respective families and friends. They especially enjoyed time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Iver served on the School Board at Columbia School for many years and was a member of the Hunters Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, and was a WWII veteran. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. His two great passions in life were his family and farming. He also loved to hunt, fish, and ride horseback. He always had something positive to say about people and greeted everyone with his great big smile. He taught us all how to have fun and not take ourselves too serious and to just enjoy life
he will be greatly missed.
Iver was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois; parents, Edward and Clara Burke; brother, William Burke; daughter, Sharon Jones; and great grand-daughter, Emmalynn Toulou.
Iver is survived by his wife Diana; two daughters, Nancy Schrack and her husband, Jim, Fruitland; Linda Toulou and her husband, Pat, Fruitland; his nephew, Dale Burke and his wife, Linville, Fruitland; and his sister-in-law, Donna Kasten, Moses Lake. He has eight grandchildren, Brady Toulou and his wife, Krissy, Spokane; Cindy Wyborney and her husband, Chuck, Hunters; Jeff Toulou and his wife, Beth, Cheney; Melissa Hall and her husband, Michael, Phoenix, Arizona; Heidi DeCoeur and her husband, David, Anchorage, Alaska; Jamie Kemmerer and her husband, Eric, Fruitland; Suzanne Litras and her husband, Travis, Spokane; and Justin Jones, Oregon. He has 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Cedonia Community Church in Hunters on Saturday, April 12, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Iver’s memory to Cedonia Community Church
