James Wheeler

December 26, 2012

James R. Wheeler went to be home with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the morning of Dec. 19, 2012. He was born Oct. 15, 1942 in Denver, CO to James and Shirley Wheeler. Jim grew up in Denver and became a successful businessman at a very young age. Along with a paper route, he started his own lawn maintenance business called “Do Right Lawn Care.” Jim attended Colorado CU College and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. He was drafted into the Army in 1968 and served his country in the Viet Nam War. He earned the rank of sergeant and was stationed at Dong Ha. Jim returned to Colorado after being honorably discharged from the Army. He took a job as a drafter and later established his own civil engineering company. He employed engineers, surveyors, architects and draftsmen. He later sold his business and merged with Kirkham Michael Engineering and was president of the Denver office. He married wife Vaughnette on Sept. 3, 1988. He had two children, Kent and Julie, from a previous marriage. Jim moved to Sandpoint, Idaho and practiced his engineering, as well as becoming a real estate agent. He lived in Sandpoint for 17 years. Finally, he retired and moved to Kettle Falls in 2005. Jim loved to hunt and fish. Some of his happiest memories were of spending time outdoors. After his retirement, Jim busied himself with making fishing rods, crafting jewelry, knife making and constructing furniture. He was truly a gifted, creative man and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Jim leaves behind his loving wife and companion, Vaughnette; two children, Kent and Julie; four grandchildren, Sarah, Olivia, Emelia and Chloe, and a sister, Sally DeLange. The memorial service for Jim Wheeler will be held at Calvary Chapel in Colville on Dec. 29 at 1 p.m. Pastor Tom Schultz will officiate.
