John Robert Pickett

John Robert Pickett was born June 24, 1941 and passed away April 10, 2012. John was born and raised in Pocatello, Idaho. His family moved to Portland for his junior high and high school years. After graduation John served in the United States Coast Guard. Throughout his life, John had several jobs including logging, working at Safeway, selling tractors, and as a security guard.
In 1970 he bought an ambulance and promoted the EMT program for five years in Port Angeles. In 1985 he started the Civil Air Patrol chapter in Port Angeles at Fairchild International Airport. He was a commander and mission pilot and eventually received the rank of major. John was always very involved in his local community. He was a member of the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce, president of the Fair Board, a Reserve Police Lieutenant in the Port Angeles Police Department, and a member of the EDC. He was active in the Elks Lodge where he served as Exalted Ruler twice. When he and his wife Mary moved to Colville after he retired from US West phone company, they both volunteered as drivers for Catholic Charities.
John was a caring, adventurous man who enjoyed flying his airplane, hunting, and camping with his family. He is survived by his wife, brother, three children, and four stepchildren. His memorial service will be held at the Eagles Lodge in Colville on Friday, April 20 at 1:30 p.m.
