John Rowlee Marchinek

March 28, 2012

John Rowlee Marchinek, 60, passed away at his home in Kettle Falls on March 19, 2012.
The funeral was held the following Saturday at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville, where he was laid to rest.
John Marchinek was born June 14,1951 to John “Pete” and Margaret (nee Rowlee) Marchinek in Colville. His father was a Track Inspector and his mother was a Telegrapher for the Great Northern Railroad. John’s birth was followed by a sister, Jeanne, but both lost their mother, Margaret, shortly after.
His father later remarried Ruth Marrow. John and his sister grew up Kettle Falls while spending their summers in Whitefish, MT at the home of his grandparents, L.G. and Millie Rowlee, where they explored Glacier National Park and the surrounding area.
John graduated from Kettle Falls High School in 1970. It was there where he began to pursue his interests of Radio Electronics and the surrounding mountains he grew up in. He met and married Vickie Sue Bagley of Colville in 1972 and they had three sons: Shawn, Jason and Ryan.
After various jobs and some part-time work with the U.S. Forest Service, working fire crew and as a lookout, he landed a dream job that would become his life’s work as a Communications Technician on the Colville National Forest. He continued with the U.S. Forest Service for over 35 years, becoming the Lead Service Area Technician for the Colville, Okanogan and Wenatchee National Forests.
John and Vickie enjoyed nearly 40 years of marriage, where they quietly maintained their property and home outside of Kettle Falls. When he was not spending time with family or working, he enjoyed time with his friends and collecting and repairing old cars. His passion was Ford Mustangs and his prized car was his 1969 Mach I.
He is survived by his wife, Vickie; three sons and spouses, Shawn and Teresa Marchinek, Jason Marchinek and Jessica Wiley, Ryan and Becki Marchinek; seven grandsons, Tristian, Andy, Hayden, Nathanyl, Mathew, Dylan and Caleb; a grand-daughter, Sophia; his sisters and spouses, Jeanne and Jess Garrett; Betty and Bob Hill; and several cousins, nephews and nieces and their families.
