Kelly Palumbo

April 24, 2013

Kelly Lynn Palumbo, a lifetime resident of the Colville area, passed away very peacefully in Chewelah at the age of 53. She was born on March 24, 1960 in Colville, the daughter of, Howard and Eileen (Brown) Kaiser.
Kelly was raised and attended school in Kettle Falls and graduated from Kettle Falls High School in 1978. After graduation, she attended Eastern Washington University where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a Reading Major and a Math Minor.
She began her career in teaching at Astor School in 1983. That same year, she married Steve Palumbo and together they were blessed with 30 wonderful years. During her years in the classroom, she continued her education and received her Master’s Degree in Curriculum Development and Administration from Gonzaga University.
Kelly had a great passion for teaching her second-graders. Her influence made a great impact on countless lives. Kelly’s love for teaching and children extended well beyond the classroom. She was a Certified Lifeguard and taught swimming lessons at the Kettle Falls city pool as well as volunteering her time with the Junior Miss Program in Kettle Falls. As her battle with cancer grew, Kelly’s devotion to education was unwavering. Her passion was her classroom and her inspiration was her students. Several weeks before her passing, Kelly was still teaching half days.
With her family being the number one priority in her life, she was very involved in her own children’s sports activities during their school years. As a family, they spent many days camping and traveling to various sporting events. An avid skier, Kelly spent the winter months traveling to various ski resorts to watch her children compete in ski racing. Whenever she had some time at home, she was busy in her garden nurturing her flowers.
Kelly’s focus was always on the needs of others, and because of that, she made many dear friends. She was deeply loved by her family and friends, and her presence will live on forever in the many hearts she has touched.
Kelly is survived by her husband, Steve Palumbo, Evans; daughter, Talia Palumbo, Evans; son, David Palumbo, Sheridan, OR; granddaughter, Heirabella Palumbo; parents, Howard and Eileen Kaiser, Kettle Falls; her brothers, Wes Kaiser, Cheney; Karl Kaiser and wife Lisa, Barstow; her sister, Shannon Kaiser, Spokane.
A memorial service for Kelly will be held at Colville High on Monday, April 29 at 4 p.m., followed by a sharing of food and memories. Pastor Tony Pinkham of the Kettle Falls Community Church, where Kelly was a member, will be officiating.
