Kenneth Grittner

April 16, 2014

Kenneth Keith Grittner, a 65-year resident of Colville, passed away on April 9, 2014 at his home. Ken was born on October 29, 1932 in Colville, the son of William and Buela (Kifer) Grittner.
Ken attended a one-room schoolhouse across the field from the family home on Dominion Mountain through fifth grade. He graduated from Colville High School in 1950. Ken then worked as a logger in the local forests with his father. He moved to Richland in 1954 where he worked at Hanford until 1971.
Ken married Linda J. Trimble in 1970, and they returned to Colville in 1971. Ken worked as a production manager at Colmac Coil until his retirement in 1997.
Ken loved his family and the outdoors…hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, wave running, huckleberry picking and cutting firewood. His favorite hobbies included being ornery, eating chocolate chip cookies, drinking chocolate milkshakes, watching the Mariners and Gonzaga with family and his friends, Loren Streicher and Dick Dickinson, and hanging out with his special buddy, Joe Greco.
Ken could do anything and everything: farming, designing, remodeling, building a house addition, fixing cars or farm equipment, and supervising a crew. His children remember his workshop being off limits between Thanksgiving and Christmas while he made wonderful toys, dollhouses, cars, etc. from wood. Ken will be fondly remembered for his smile, gentle spirit, kind acceptance of everyone, and his ornery streak that continually brought laughter to those around him.
Ken was preceded in death by three brothers, Stanley Grittner, Gordon Grittner and Art Grittner.
Ken is survived by his wife, Linda Grittner; children, Colleen Guyette, Kristen Cochran and her husband, Mark, Koreen Fields and her husband, Curt, Kenneth Grittner, Jr and his wife, Carol; Kendi Fletcher and her husband, Jason, Keith Grittner and his wife, Christi; grandchildren, John Guyette and his wife, Desiree; Amanda Hansen and her husband, Jamie; Rebecca Flaim and her husband, Shawn; David Guyette, Mark Fields and his wife, Mel, Sarah Flieger and her husband, John; Leah Ihnen and her husand, Nick, Megan Grittner; Emily Fletcher, Zackary Fletcher, Levi Fletcher, Colton Fletcher, Kale Grittner, Kara Grittner; great-grandchildren, Hailey and Felicia Guyette, Conner, Lincoln and Annaka Hansen, Gabriel and Amelia Flaim, Madysen, Natalie and Rachel Flieger, Kaylee Ihnen; siblings, Lyola Grittner, Janice Cloyd, Kay Kristick and her husband, Larry, Kent Grittner and his wife, Tina, Kathy Hallam and Rita Grittner; special buddy, Joe Greco.
