Itâs not every day that a local school gets credence from a national magazine regarding its teaching model. Thatâs exactly what happened, though, when Kettle Falls Elementary School (KFES) was praised for its Expeditionary Learning (EL) program in the upcoming October issue of Parents magazine, an American mass circulation monthly magazine that features scientific information on child development geared to help parents in raising their children. The magazine sells an average of 1000,000 copies per month.
âI think itâs an incredible honor,â says KFES Principal Val McKern, of the article written by Sharlene Johnson. âItâs nice that the students and staff are being acknowledged on such a scale for their hard work in making learning more engaging.â
Kettle Falls is one of 60 schools in the United States that uses the EL model for kindergarten through 12th grade. The school district has utilized the program for the past 10-years.
