Kettle Falls comes into District on a roll
In Northeast 2B softball action last week, Kettle Falls (11-7) picked up four key wins to end the regular season.
KFHS knocked off Davenport 5-1, 10-1 back on May 1 before handling Springdale 14-4, 15-1 on Monday. Both doubleheaders were played at Kettle Falls.
KFHS touched Springdale pitching for 23 hits in the Monday doubleheader.
Krislin McInelly picked up the wins for Kettle Falls.
Back on May 1, KFHS had to come from behind to post the 5-1 win in the opener. The Lady Bulldogs trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.
KFHS plated five runs in the inning to post the come-from-behind win. McInelly hit a solo home run over the centerfield fence in the sixth.
“I was really proud of the way the girls kept up the noise in the dugout all through the first five innings when we had a really quiet offense,” KFHS head coach Amy Owens said of the first game.
McInelly’s home run ignited the Kettle Falls offense.
“The floodgates kind of opened there and we were able to take advantage by putting some hits together and moving kids around the bases.”
Kettle Falls ended up third in the NE 2B.
The District Tournament will be played at the Merkel Softball Complex in Spokane (adjacent to Albi Stadium) on Saturday, May 19.
“There is no reason we shouldn’t shoot for number one at the District tournament,” Owens said. “We are playing well right now…and as long as we continue to improve the way we have been, it’s a good goal to have.”
Owens says she appreciates the leadership that has been provided by seniors D’ylanie Robertson, Sam Adams, Jessica West and Payeton Rogalette.
“Their leadership has helped us get stronger every week,” Owens said.
In game one, Jessica West had a pair of hits. Adams, Emily Owens and Katie Harris also hit safely.
In the second game, West, McInelly, Serena Pounds, Katie Harris and Kelsey Eslick all hit safely. Owens had a pair of hits and Pounds doubled.
