Let's go to the fair

August 20, 2011

A young woman grooms her dairy cow for show at last year's Northeast Washington Fair.

It’s that time of year again, so be sure to check out the Northeast Washington Fair Thursday, Aug. 25 through Sunday, Aug. 28 at the Northeast Washington Fairgrounds in Colville.
According to NE WA Fair Manager Lori Matlock, there are over 785 participants in this year’s fair, not counting food and craft vendors.
“This year, we are at about 5,500 exhibits and climbing,” says Matlock. “That’s great news because it means the fair is alive and well and parent are keeping their kids in this grass-roots type of education.”
The annual Fair Royalty Pageant will start Thursday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. Princess MacKayla McLaughlin and Queen Mariah Lentz, 2011 NE WA Fair Royalty will preside over the event.
Advance fair tickets are now on sale at the fair office, Colville Chamber of Commerce and Aslinn Finch (the Flour Mill). Prices are $10 for adults and $7 for youth and seniors. Daily tickets are$7 for adult and $5 for seniors and youth. Thursday, August 25 is Boise Day and Boise Cascade will pay for the first 1,500 people through the gate.
On Saturday, Aug. 27 Forest Capital will pay for the first 150 people though the gate, then on Sunday, Aug. 28, Pomona Grange will pick up the tab for the first 500 people.
Applications to participate in the NE WA Fair Parade on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 10 a.m. are still available. Those interested should contact the fair office at 684-2585 as soon as possible.
“We have so much fun stuff going on this year,’” states Matlock. “Dance lessons, live music, chili cook-off---more stuff than I can list. There is so much talent that happens at our fair that it’s truly amazing.”
