March is Meals on Wheels month

March 6, 2013

Meals on Wheels provides hot meals delivered to area seniors.

Chances are, we all know a homebound senior. Tri-County Senior Nutrition, a program of Rural Resources Community Action, is participating in the National 'March for Meals' Campaign.
Held in March, the campaign is designed to increase public awareness, recruit new volunteers and increase funding for Meals on Wheels. All monies raised are used locally for meals for homebound seniors.
According to Senior Nutrition Program Assistant Darlene Visger, Meals on Wheels was able to provide over 12,600 meals to seniors in the Tri-County area in 2012.
“It is more than a number--it is our grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts, uncles, moms and dads,” says Visger. “Sometimes, it is someone re¬cently discharged from the hospital after surgery or ill¬ness, who need short-term as¬sistance--or it could be a long-term situation, a physical, emotional or mental impairment--Meals on Wheels is here to help.”
The following are upcoming fund-raisers around the community that will benefit the Meals on Wheels Program:
