Marguerite Mary McNamee, a longtime resident of the Northport and Colville areas, passed away with her family by her side on Feb. 22, 2012 in Colville at the age of 80. Mary was born on April 9, 1931 in Trail, British Columbia, the daughter of Ernest Thomas “Tom” Nollie and Mary Marguerite Nollie (Daily).
When she was very young, Mary moved to Rossland, B.C. with her family, where she began school. Her earliest memories were of tap dancing, ice-skating, and her weekly outings to the theater. Mary was fondly referred to as the “Shirley Temple of Rossland”. In her early teens, Mary moved to Northport, where she attended high school.
On Dec. 9, 1949, she married Joseph Ralph McNamee in Spokane. Through the years, they resided in Northeast Wash¬ington, primarily in Northport, before retiring to Colville. Mary worked in the home and alongside Joseph in their mining, log¬ging, sawmill, gift shop and “Le Rendezvous” Restaurant en¬deavors.
Mary enjoyed working in her vegetable garden and cooking many tasty dishes. Her cooking was highly regarded and well known in the town of Northport (including several of her “Le Rendezvous” creations). She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends best of all. She always made enough to feed several ad¬ditional guests, should someone stop by for dinner. Mary wel¬comed any visitors to her home with fresh baked pies and a hot cup of tea. “Tea time” was one of Mary’s very favorite pastimes. Mary enjoyed socializing and dancing, especially with her life¬long dance partner, Joe. Mary had a heart of gold and an in¬credible sensitivity toward the needs and feelings of her family and friends. She was immeasurably loved and offered the same in return. Her presence will be deeply missed.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Ralph McNamee, and by her son, Joseph Thomas “Joey” McNamee.
She is survived by her daughters, Terri Snyder and husband, Earl, Chewelah; Mary Jo Richardson and husband, Rex, Addy; son, Corey McNamee and wife, Tammy, Kettle Falls; brother, Garry Daily and wife, Jackie, Usk; ten grandchildren: Jeremy LeCaire, Jennifer Ragains, Evi Hill, Deanna Peterson, Heidi Shovell, Joe Richardson, Jeff Richardson, Brandon McNamee, Andy McNamee and Missy McNamee; five great-grandchildren, Ian Hill, Alyssa Cordier, Brittany Cordier, Matthew Peterson, and Dawson McNamee.
