Marilyn Lakey

April 11, 2012

Marilyn A. Lakey, 80, was born on Oct. 7, 1931 in Fruitland and passed away on March 24, 2012 in Spokane.
Marilyn graduated from Hunters (Columbia) High School. She married Casey Lakey on Feb. 18, 1950 in Davenport. They lived and farmed in the Colville Valley for 18 years.
She enjoyed playing music, dancing at the Arden Hall, attending her ladies club and being involved in 4-H with her children. The family moved to Spokane, where they ran a daycare for 18 years until they retired and started traveling in their RV. They spent the winters on the Washington and Oregon coasts with one great summer spent in Alaska.
She lived out her remaining years in her RV, enjoying her family, crafting, quilting, and keyboarding. She also loved a good hockey game, rodeos and visiting the ocean.
Marilyn is survived by her brothers, Alvin Sampson (Tina), Bud Sampson (Donna) and Wayne Sampson (Marlene); sisters, Shirley Coulter (George), Margaret Nevin (Rod), and Mary Carter (Jerry); her son, Tim Lakey (Roxanne); daughters, Sue Blackman (Rick) and Lorrie Henry (Tim); as well as 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth E. Sampson; mother Grace E. Sampson and her husband of 50 years, Casey Lakey.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 5 at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
