Marion Holland

June 5, 2012

Marion Ethel Holland, age 98, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 31, 2012 at Pinewood Terrace, her home for the past few years.
Marion was born on July 14, 1913, the daughter of Ed¬win Earl and Beulah Vieve (Markham) Wright in Colville. They were a pioneer family that moved from Iowa to homestead a plot at the Little Pend Oreille Lakes in the early 1900’s. Marion’s father passed away when she was three-years-old in an accident while driving a mail truck from Middle Fork (Pend Oreille Lakes) to Ione. She and her brother, Donovan, were raised by their mother until her mother married Archie Wilson in 1928.
Marion graduated from Colville High School in 1931, playing championship basketball, then attended and graduated from Seattle Business University.
Marion married Delbert Scoles on July 3, 1937 in Colville. They had two daughters, Marla and Deena.
Marion and Delbert entertained friends, won prizes for their Christmas decorations, enjoyed trips and were wonderful neighbors in their East Astor neighborhood. Delbert was a law¬yer, prosecut¬ing attorney, and superior court judge in Stevens and Pend Or¬eille Counties. He passed away on Sept. 9, 1972.
Marion loved to decorate and make crafts, knit, crochet, mac¬ramé, and bake for friends. She was a past member of Eastern Star, the Methodist Church, and the American Bowling Con¬gress.
She married David Holland on June 29, 1974. They had 35 years together before his passing in 2009. They enjoyed many flying trips, including several to Alaska, Reno, Las Ve¬gas, Ne¬vada, and Lake Tahoe. She and David enjoyed four trips to Ha¬waii, a place she described as “Heaven on Earth.”
Marion was preceded in death by her parents; husband Del¬bert Scoles, husband David Holland, and grandson, Rob Bi¬ble.
She is survived by daughters, Marla (Roger) Olsen, Ket¬tle Falls; and Deena Lowry, Colville; grandchildren, Dennis (Korry) Olsen, Ketchikan, AK and Theresa Rupert, Colville; great- grandchildren, Karlee Olsen and Eric Olsen, Ketchikan; Cary, Chelyse and Cassidy Bible, Colorado Springs, CO; Courtney, Connor, Camden and Carson Snell, Te¬hachapi, CA.
