Mavis Withers

Mavis Mary Withers, a 19-year resident of Rice, passed away May 30, 2012 in Colville. Mavis was born in Eureka, South Dakota on June 2, 1940 to Edwin and Otiela (Leidle) Withers.
Mavis was raised and attended a one-room school in Eureka until the age of 12 when her family moved to Moses Lake, where she completed the 10th grade at Moses Lake High School.
In 1966 she married John Withers in Rubidoux, CA. At the time, John was enlisted in the United States Navy and because of that, she and John had the privilege of traveling around the world. In 1980 they moved back to Moses Lake and she spent her time taking care of her house duties and baby-sitting her grandchildren. They lived in Moses Lake until 1993, when John took a job with the Kettle Falls School District and they moved to Rice, , where Mavis lived until her passing.
Mavis loved her family and spent lots of time taking care of the grand and great-grandchildren. She was also very talented and enjoyed piecing quilts together and embroidering. Mavis was a dear wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed by all.
She is survived by her husband, John Withers, Rice; daughters, Kimerlynn Withers, Florida; Jill Kersting, Butte, MT; grand-daughters, Courtney Roth-Hernandez, Brynn Roth, Bailey Miller, Taylor Miller, Aubrey Kersting, Morgan Kersting; two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Mavis will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 23 at the Rice Christian Fellowship.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
