Mid-Summer’s Day 5K

August 8, 2012

H&R Block and the city of Colville Recreation Department teamed last Saturday morning in the latest in a season-long series of runs in Colville.
According to Colville Recreation Coordinator, Jake Wilson, the final Fun Run in the series had the best turnout. Over 50 runners showed up last Saturday morning for the run.
“The weather last Saturday morning was perfect for running…that left smiles on everyone’s faces,” Wilson said.
Finishing first was Duncan Forsman of Republic in 19:04.
Forsman was followed closely by Spencer Reiss of Curlew. Colville’s Emmett Morehouse finished a close third.
The Rendezvous weekend Mid-Summer’s Day 5K drew serious runners, recreational runners, a couple of canines and even a baby to the starting line at Colville Junior High School.
The Mid-Summer’s Day 5K course wound its way through the Cedar Loop/Shiloh neighborhood and ended back at Colville Junior High School.
This year’s three race series included the Reiss family of Curlew.
“They made it over the mountains in the early morning hours to compete in each race,” Wilson said. “It is always a pleasure to have the Reiss family here. They are a family of seven very talented runners. It’s pretty spectacular to have an entire family across the finish line in less than 30-minutes, especially when three of them are 10-years-old and younger.
“Having them in our Fun Runs is fantastic. They are always so polite and a pleasure to be around.
