Muriel Kolbe-Briody

Muriel June Kolbe-Briody, a seven-year resident of Colville, passed away on June 14, 2012 in Colville at the age of 94. June was born on June 23, 1917 in San Francisco, CA, the daughter of Walter and Elsie (Goldsworthy) Johansen.
June was raised in the Petaluma, CA area, where she attended school. She graduated in 1936 from Petaluma High School and began singing with the San Francisco Opera as a contralto.
At the age of 27, she married Donald Jones. June left the op¬era in response to her mother’s failing health and cared for her needs for 12 years. Donald preceded her in death in 1984.
She and Donald moved from California to South Lake Tahoe and then to Carson City, NV. While in Carson City, June worked for the Nevada State Department of Worker’s Compensation. She met Theodore Kolbe and they later married. Together they shared several years traveling and enjoying retirement.
Theodore preceded her in death in 1998.
June remained in Carson City and was introduced to Joseph Briody. On Feb. 14, 2004, she and Joseph were wed at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carson City. They moved into Colville on May 15, 2005, where they have resided since.
June was a gifted vocalist who loved to sing and dance. She took many dance classes throughout the years and enjoyed a multitude of dance styles. June sang as a soloist at many of the local churches. She also enjoyed the theater and the arts. She spent many hours painting, working crossword puzzles and took an occasional run to the casinos to dance with Lady Luck.
June was a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles (since 2006).
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Briody; six step-children, Judy Gentry and husband, Roger, Colville; John Briody and wife, Kristen, Austin, TX; James Briody and former wife, Veronica, Sacramento, CA; Janice Briody, Sacramento; Eric Kolbe and wife, Kristen, Reno, NV; Kurt Kolbe and former wife, Dee, Carson City; ten step-grandchildren, six step-great- grandchil¬dren and three step-great-great-grandchildren, along with her God-son, Jeremy Best of Carson City.
A graveside service for Mrs. Muriel June Kolbe-Briody will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 22 at the Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City.
Memorial contributions may be given to either the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carson City or the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colville.
