Nancy Jean McLain, a six-year resident of Colville, passed away on Nov. 1, 2012 in her home surrounded by loving family. Nancy was born on July 11, 1947 in Evanston, IL, the daughter of Francis Edgar and Nancy Mary (Higgins) Worcester.
She moved often while growing up to follow the work opportunities of her father. Nancy attended grade school successively in the communities of Hutchinson, KS; Everett, Wenatchee, Seattle and Sitka, AK. Her high school years were shared between the communities of Anchorage and Glennallen, AK.
Following Nancy’s graduation in 1965, she began work in a local bakery. She married Robert Quiroz and they began a family with the births of her two sons, Robert and Brian.
Following their divorce, Nancy returned to Alaska with her boys. There she worked for the City of Seward, earning her way into the position of controller. She shared 14 years in marriage with Jack Goodwill. That relationship began in the mid-1970’s and ended in yet another divorce. Then in 1989, she was introduced to Chad McLain. This introduction soon led to their marriage into the Catholic Church on March 29, 1991 in Anchorage. They shared the next 21 years together in love and loving life’s adventures.
Moving to Reno, NV, Nancy worked for the Reno Police Department, the University of Reno, Desert Re¬search Institute and Blakley, Johnson & Ghusn engineering firm. Nancy spent the last three years in Reno earning her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Reno.
The day after her college graduation, Nancy and Chad moved to Tacoma. Nancy worked as an accountant with Firgrove Wa¬ter Company until their relocation to Spokane in 2005. She then employed her accounting skills with Catholic Charities and later Teck Cominco, once moving to their dream home in Colville. Nancy began a courageous battle with cancer in 2008 when she was diagnosed with stage four cancer. She loved life and fought tirelessly for the following four years. Nancy even returned to work for a time with Newtec in Kettle Falls.
She grasped life with both hands and ran full speed ahead, only slowing to grab those she loved to carry them at her side. Nancy exuded love, whether she was in her living room dancing to Fleetwood Mac with her sisters, organizing and or¬chestrating family gatherings, beginning piano lessons at age 64, outdoor camping, or while in reverent prayer. With every breath she loved God, her family and those around her.
Nancy was preceded in death by her mother and father.
